Plans & Programs

Medical Plans
Employees at Yale-New Haven Hospital choose from two comprehensive plans that provide both in-network and out-of-network coverage. No referrals are necessary for doctors or specialists. Employees who show proof of other coverage can waive coverage and receive credits or cash back.

  • Yale New Haven Health Advantage Plus Plan
    Providing in- and out-of-network coverage.
    • Highest level of benefits when services are provided at a Yale New Haven Health System hospital.
    • In-Network Benefits: $20 co-pay office visits, and 100% coverage for most services. No claim forms required.
    • Out-Of-Network Benefits: 70% coverage for many services following $250 individual/$500 family deductible.

  • Yale New Haven Health Advantage Plan
Offering lower per pay contributions, but you must meet a deductible if you need major health care services.
    • In-Network Benefits: Preventive care covered at 100% following $20 co-pay with no deductible. Physician/specialist office visits are $30 co-pay with no deductible. All other services are covered at 80% after $200 individual/$400 family deductible.
    • Out-Of-Network Benefits: $750 individual/$2,250 family deductible; 60% coverage for most services.

Dental Plans
Both plans offer preventative care and diagnostic services. The Plus Plan also offers major dental and orthodontic services.

  • Delta Dental Basic Plan
Covers 100% of preventative services with no deductible, and 80% of restorative services after a $50 individual/$100 family deductible.
  • Delta Dental Plus Plan
Covers 100% of preventative services with no deductible, 80% of restorative services, 50% of major services, and 50% of orthodontic services after a $50 individual/$100 family deductible.

Prescription Drug Coverage
Employees and dependents covered under either medical plan are covered by our prescription drug program. Employees can choose to purchase prescriptions from participating pharmacies or through mail order (up to a 90-day supply) at a reduced cost.

Life Insurance
Effective January 1, 2009, after the first of the month following 30 days of employment, employees are provided with life insurance coverage equal to their annual salary. Additional insurance of up to five times the annual salary can be purchased using pre-tax dollars.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Pre-tax dollars may be set aside to pay for qualifying health expenses or dependent day care expenses. Yale-New Haven Hospital matches 5% of each employee's elected contribution under the FSA. Under IRS regulations, any unused funds are forfeited at yearend.

  • Health Care Spending Account
Up to $5,000 each year may be set aside tax-free to pay for out-of-pocket health-related expenses, including co-pays, deductibles, dental and vision care expenses.
  • Dependent Care Spending Account
Up to $5,000 each year may be set aside tax-free to pay for child day care and other qualifying dependent day care expenses.

Paid Time Off (PTO)
Full-time and part-time employees who work 24 or more hours per week are eligible for the PTO program. Employees accrue a specific number of days off per year (28 to 40 days) based on their length of service and position classification. PTO includes time off used for sick days, vacation, holidays or personal days. Annual cash-in of PTO is available, and the amount eligible for cash-in is based on length of employment.

Employee Referral Program
Employees who refer a nursing or allied health professional to Yale-New Haven Hospital's Recruitment and Staffing Office - who is subsequently hired for a qualifying position - are eligible to receive a referral bonus of up to $3,000. For complete program details, contact Recruitment and Staffing at (203) 688-5083.
